What a chin implant can correct
Chin augmentation strengthens and defines the jawline by increasing projection and bringing your features into balance. The implants are generally silicone-based and look natural. The procedure suits both men and women, and it tends to come down to one of three things.
SHAPE
Sloping or pointed chins
An implant corrects a sloping or recessed chin, and can soften a chin that reads as excessively pointed or square.
SIZE
A chin that reads as small
A small chin can create the appearance of a double chin. Increasing chin size addresses the proportion problem at its source.
SYMMETRY
Facial imbalance
Asymmetry, an imbalance between chin and nose size, for instance, can be corrected through augmentation.
Types of chin procedures
There are two main surgical routes; chin augmentation with a synthetic implant, and chin and neck sculpting with liposuction. Dr. Yee also offers nonsurgical alternatives for patients who are not yet ready for surgery, or not interested in it.
Chin augmentation with implants
A silicone implant is fitted around your existing chin bone to increase projection and define the jawline. Appropriate for both men and women, and the results are permanent.
- Best for: a recessed or weak chin
- Scar: hidden under the chin or inside the mouth
- Downtime: about 1 week
Chin sculpting
Excess fat under the chin or around the neck can blur the jawline. Liposuction removes it to sharpen the profile. A neck lift can address loose skin at the same time.
- Best for: a double chin, excess fat
- Scar: none visible
- Downtime: relatively quick
Nonsurgical options
Injectable fillers including JUVÉDERM, Restylane, and Radiesse deliver natural-looking results lasting 12+ months. KYBELLA reduces submental fullness without surgery.
- Best for: not ready for surgery
- Scar: none
- Downtime: minimal
Quantum radiofrequency tightening
Controlled RF energy heats the tissue under the chin to stimulate collagen and tighten loose skin. It needs only tiny incisions and suits patients who want improvement short of a full surgical lift.
- Best for: mild to moderate laxity
- Scar: tiny incisions
- Downtime: minimal
Are you a candidate?
If you are unhappy with your profile because of a poorly defined chin, you may be a good candidate. The chin typically does not stop growing until around age 20, so Dr. Yee usually recommends waiting until growth has finished before augmentation.
You may be a candidate if you:
Good candidates are in good overall health and are non-smokers; both lower the chance of surgical complications and help your results hold. Realistic expectations matter too, and Dr. Yee will help set them at your consultation.
Working out candidacy on your own is genuinely confusing. Her Little Rock team can evaluate whether a chin implant is the right procedure for you.
When an implant is not the answer
Certain conditions make chin augmentation the wrong choice. Dr. Yee checks for these before recommending surgery.
- Severe microgenia
- Lower lip protrusion
- Periodontal disease
- Extreme malocclusion
- Active infection
- Poor wound healing
- Compromised immune function
If one of these applies, it does not necessarily rule out treatment; it changes which treatment fits.

What to expect on procedure day
Chin augmentation typically takes less than an hour. Dr. Yee’s anesthesiologist administers general anesthesia, so you feel nothing and will not remember the procedure. An oral sedative is available beforehand if nerves are an issue.

- Stop smoking at least six weeks before and after surgery. It restricts blood flow and interferes with healing.
- Stop blood thinners two weeks out; aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E, and fish oil all increase bleeding and bruising.
- Skip alcohol for two weeks beforehand. It thins the blood and impairs healing.
- Do not eat or drink for at least six hours before surgery, apart from small sips of water with approved medication.
- Arrange a driver and someone to stay with you for the first 24 hours.
Recovery and results
Because chin augmentation is minimally invasive, it asks less of you than most facial surgery. You should see visible improvement immediately, and most patients are back to their regular lifestyle in about a week.

- FIRST 24 HOURS
Soft foods and clear liquids only. Ease back into a solid diet starting with bland foods. - FIRST FEW DAYS
Compression bandages hold the implant in place and support correct healing. Swelling, bruising, and soreness are normal and are managed with the medication Dr. Yee prescribes. - WEEK 1
Most patients resume their regular lifestyle. - WEEKS 1 TO 2
No strenuous activity, heavy lifting, or contact sports for about two weeks. - MONTHS 2 TO 4
Full healing, with swelling completely resolved. Results are permanent from here: a defined jawline and a balanced profile.

Combining with other procedures
Dr. Yee may recommend pairing chin augmentation with another procedure to balance the proportions of your whole face. A chin implant with rhinoplasty is a common combination, since the chin and nose read against each other in profile. Cheek augmentation is another popular pairing. And if eliminating a double chin is your main goal, a chin implant with a neck lift and neck liposuction tightens skin and muscle while removing fat.
