An overprotected nose is a nose that looks longer when a person is viewed in profile. Generally, this is the result of three different factors that are sometimes paired together:

• An Overprojected Nasal Tip – If the tip of the nose sticks out too far, it can lead your nose to look too large or too long.
• Angle of the Nasal Tip – The angle of the tip of the nose is also an important consideration. A straight or downturned angle can make the nose appear longer or projected in an unappealing fashion.
• A Curved Nasal Bridge – The bridge of the nose may have a curve or a bump that alters the entire appearance of the nose when seen in profile.

A rhinoplasty can be performed as an open surgery or a closed surgery.

• Open Rhinoplasty – During an open rhinoplasty, an incision is made along the columella, the thin strip of skin that separates the two nostrils. Surgeons can access all of the structures of the nose through this incision.
• Closed Rhinoplasty – During a closed rhinoplasty, all of the incisions are concealed inside of the nostrils, meaning that there are no external incisions whatsoever on the nose itself.
