If excess fat tissue leaves you feeling self-conscious, liposuction by our Little Rock, AR, plastic surgeon can provide results that give you a powerful and exciting boost in confidence. An Effective Solution for Stubborn Fat Tissue
At one time or another, most of us have noticed areas on our bodies that are resistant to weight loss. Any personal trainer will tell you that the only way to lose fat is over the entire body, through proper diet and aerobic exercise. For patients who have tried dieting and exercise, but still have stubborn fatty deposits, surgical body contouring is the most effective solution. Liposuction, also known as lipoplasty or a lipectomy, involves a small incision near the problem area, where a device called a cannula is inserted and used to suction out stubborn fat cells. At our Little Rock, Arkansas practice, we offer ultrasound liposuction using the LipoSelection system by VASER®.
If you are a candidate for liposuction, Dr. Yee can target localized fatty deposits that diet and exercise can’t target or eliminate. Liposuction is an effective way to sculpt problem areas such as the abdomen and buttocks. However, our Little Rock, Arkansas, surgical practice wants patients to understand that body contouring with liposuction is not a surgical treatment for obesity or a substitute for a healthy diet and regular exercise.
Candidacy Requirements
Being within 30 percent of your ideal weight
Liposuction is intended to eliminate small areas of fat, but it is not a weight loss treatment and it is not a substitute for a balanced diet and regular exercise.
Having good overall health
Patients with chronic or life-threatening conditions can be at a high risk of experiencing complications during the healing process.
Having sufficient skin elasticity
If a patient's skin does not contract properly after surgery, he or she can be left with drooping, sagging tissue. Body contouring may be needed after lipo in some cases.

Other Liposuction Benefits
LipoSelection
At our Little Rock, Arkansas, plastic surgery practice, Dr. Yee performs ultrasound-assisted tumescent liposuction using the LipoSelection system by VASER®. The VASER system combines ultrasound energy with tumescent liposuction to break up and emulsify fat cells before they are removed using a tool called a cannula (a long, thin tube that removes fatty tissue using gentle suction). LipoSelection is a treatment that causes minimal tissue trauma.
Patients who undergo LipoSelection with the VASER system at our Little Rock, AR, plastic surgery practice report less pain and bruising than those who receive traditional tumescent liposuction. LipoSelection also allows Dr. Yee to enhance delicate areas such as the upper & lower abdomen, buttocks, inner thighs, back, arms, chin, and neck with excellent precision. To put it another way, others will admire your lean contours, not the work you have had done.
Another advantage of having LipoSelection performed at our Little Rock, AR, practice (as opposed to traditional contouring with liposuction) is that the VASER system makes it easier to smooth the skin. The cannula used in traditional liposuction may have a negative impact on the tissues that are critical to achieving smooth results, while the VASER system can specifically target fat cells, leaving other tissues intact to create an attractive and smooth texture.
Renuvion A New Way to Enhance Your Lipo Results
Do you have lax, stretched skin in addition to stubborn fat deposits? Dr. Yee provides advanced Renuvion skin tightening in combination with liposuction to give you leaner contours and tighten skin in the treatment area. Rather than relying on skin tightening methods that require large incisions and tissue removal, this approach uses helium plasma energy (helium gas ionized with radiofrequency energy).
It is delivered through very small incisions to the underlying tissues, producing an instant tightening effect. This treatment also spurs collagen production to make your skin more supple. Patients can return to light physical activity after just two to three days and the results will continue to improve over the course of three to six months.

Other Types of Lipo
SmartLipo
SmartLipo is the first laser-assisted liposuction procedure. A laser is guided through a small cannula to liquefy fat deposits. The laser energy also interacts with the dermis (the inner layer of skin) resulting in collagen shrinkage to help smooth and tighten the skin, decreasing the looseness that is sometimes evident with traditional liposuction. There is less swelling, bleeding, and bruising than with traditional liposuction, promoting quicker recovery and fewer complications.
VASER Hi Def™
A sculpted and athletic appearance can be achieved with Hi Def Liposculpture. This type of lipo involves removing superficial and deep fat cells around muscle groups. Once the fat is removed through the cannula, the underlying musculature is more visible. It requires advanced training, and Dr. Yee is one of 12 surgeons in the country specially trained to perform this advanced body contouring procedure. As Dr. Yee's patient, you can take advantage of today's most sophisticated treatments.

Before and After
Fat Transfer
Fat transfer is a unique treatment that offers versatile enhancement. Patients looking for a more natural alternative to dermal fillers or implants often make excellent candidates for this facial rejuvenation treatment. It can also be used for breast augmentation and buttock augmentation. This minimally invasive technique results in no scarring at the injection site because it does not require any incisions.
Using a special type of thin cannula and low-suction liposuction, the integrity of the fat cells will be preserved. Following extraction, a centrifuge is used to separate the whole fat cells from damaged cells and other tissue. Dr. Yee will then inject the purified fat into the treatment area to provide you with enhanced volume and contours.

What to Expect after the Procedure
A week after the procedure, Dr. Yee will have you return to our Little Rock, AR, office for a post-surgery visit to ensure that you are healing properly and following your aftercare instructions. To make sure you get the most out of your procedure, it is important to follow the instructions given to you as needed over the course of 12 months. In the first few days following liposuction, the best thing you can do is rest. While modern techniques have a significantly lower impact on the body than traditional liposuction, it will take a few days to recover.
Major complications are rare, and Dr. Yee can educate you about signs for concern during your recovery because your safety is our primary concern. Most patients experience some mild swelling, bruising, and tenderness, which should subside in a short time. Much of the discomfort associated with this solution can be controlled with pain medication prescribed by Dr. Yee. Many patients return to normal activity in two to three days. Patients can usually resume a regular exercise routine in about two weeks following liposuction.
Most liposuction patients can return to desk work within five days of surgery.

Liposuction after Massive Weight Loss
After massive weight loss achieved through surgery or other means, many patients may continue to have stubborn fat deposits in certain areas of the body. The abdomen, buttocks, and thighs are often problem areas that can make wearing revealing clothing such as bathing suits difficult even after achieving massive weight loss. Liposuction following bariatric surgery can help remove these stubborn areas that refuse to respond to diet and exercise. If you have been left frustrated with remaining fat deposits after losing significant weight, Dr. Yee can help.
If the patient has a protruding or bulging abdomen, liposuction may be performed in conjunction with an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) procedure at our Little Rock, AR, office. Another issue facing patients who have lost a significant amount of weight is a loss of skin elasticity. We offer a number of body contouring solutions such as arm lift and thigh lift procedures to tighten sagging skin that results from losing a significant amount of weight.
Liposuction and Mommy Makeovers
Moms often find that they have stubborn fat deposits following childbirth, along with stretched skin, deflated breasts, and separated abdominal muscles. Dr. Suzanne Yee in Little Rock provides custom mommy makeover plans that combine liposuction and other procedures, such as tummy tuck and breast lift, to help mothers feel confident and attractive. Dr. Yee has helped many women enjoy motherhood to the fullest with this comprehensive treatment.
Liposuction candidates have a BMI under 30. Dr. Yee can help you achieve weight loss prior to refining your contours with liposuction.
What Does Liposuction Cost?
Because there are so many variables when it comes to liposuction treatment, it is difficult to provide a cost estimate without an in-person consultation with a plastic surgeon. The primary cost factors are:
- The number of areas being treated
- The amount of fat tissue you wish to remove
- The type of liposuction used
- Your choice of plastic surgeon
Although liposuction is more widely available than ever before, you have everything to gain by choosing a reputable and credentialed surgeon rather than looking for a bargain. When you consider that revision surgery is always more complex and expensive than an initial procedure, you owe it to yourself to trust your care to a surgeon who can provide excellent outcomes the first time. During your consultation with Dr. Yee, you will receive a transparent quote based on what you hope to achieve.
Our practice works with CareCredit®, a third-party lender that can help you budget for liposuction with low-interest financing.

Answers to Frequently Asked Questions About Liposuction
What Is Tumescent Liposuction?
Tumescent liposuction involves an injection of a solution containing local anesthetic and epinephrine, which causes the treatment area to swell and become firm. Blood vessels also temporarily shrink. These combined effects result in less bleeding, less swelling, and a shortened recovery time. Will I Have Scars?
Yes, but they will be very small. In fact, with the right care, they'll be hardly noticeable. During your consultation, Dr. Yee will educate you about ways to care for your skin in order to help scars fade as much as possible after your procedure. Avoiding sun exposure and using sunblock are among the most important ways to make sure your scars remain virtually invisible. When Can I Go Back to Work?
This will depend mainly on the extent of your treatment. Generally speaking, patients can return to desk work within about five days of surgery. During your consultation with Dr. Yee, she can tell you how much time away from work you will need based on your personalized treatment plan.
What's the Difference between Lipo and a Tummy Tuck?
While a tummy tuck involves the tightening of skin tissue and the repair of separated abdominal muscles, liposuction only removes fat tissue. In most cases, a tummy tuck includes liposuction. If you have stretched skin tissue and separated abdominal muscles due to weight loss or childbirth, a tummy tuck can provide the comprehensive enhancements you need. But if you only wish to eliminate unresponsive fat, you may be able to reach your goals with liposuction alone.
Does Recovery Hurt?
You can expect swelling and soreness, but most patients describe the discomfort as being similar to a sunburn. Over-the-counter pain medication can help manage discomfort as you recover.
