The SKIN-ny on Sundamage
Summer is here and we’re ready to break this spring fever and have fun in the sun! But before you get swimsuit clad and poolside, there are a few things to remember. First, the sun ages you! Sun damage can cause wrinkles, age spots, and many visible skin imperfections. Second, the sun generates both UVA and UVB rays which have both been linked to serious cases of skin cancer. Last, there are many ways that you can prevent sun damage by following a few simple guidelines. Here are some tips from the Skin Cancer Foundation:
· Wear at least a 30 SPF sunscreen everyday.
· Keep sunscreen in your car for long drives.
· Exercise outside before 10am or after 4pm.
· Bring shade to the pool and beaches.
· Wear sarongs or wraps to provide another layer of protection
· Broad-rimmed hats help protect your face, ears, and back of the neck.
· Wear wide-rimmed sunglasses and make sure the label reads 99% UV protection.
