No matter what people may consider “natural” looking breasts to be, and many opinions exist on the subject, the fact is that many women's breasts are a source of self-consciousness. Whether a woman feels her breasts are too small, too big, or asymmetrical, a poor body image can lead to lower self-esteem. At our Little Rock, Arkansas practice, Dr. Suzanne Yee performs breast augmentation and reduction surgery because she has experienced first-hand how a positive body image can improve self-confidence.
At our Little Rock, Arkansas practice, breast augmentation and breast reduction surgery can be performed safely and effectively. Breast augmentation, or enlargement, is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic procedures today. The procedure is ideal for enhancing small breasts or breasts that have decreased in size following pregnancy, and it can create symmetry in cases where the breasts are different sizes.
During your consultation with Dr. Yee at our Little Rock, Arkansas practice,
you will discuss your goals and expectations of breast augmentation surgery.
At this time, Dr. Yee may show you before-and-after photographs of patients
with similar breasts, and you may experiment with different implants in a bra
to give you an idea of the size you would like.
At our Little Rock, Arkansas office, breast augmentation is performed on an outpatient basis using general anesthesia. The procedure generally takes about one hour. Dr. Yee can place the implant through several areas of incision, including through the nipple or under the breast. Dr. Yee can help determine the best option during your consultation.
At our Little Rock, Arkansas office, we recommend resting for the first few days following breast augmentation surgery. A post-surgical sports bra-like garment is usually recommended for several weeks. Much of the discomfort associated with breast surgery can be controlled with pain medication prescribed by Dr. Yee. Most women experience some mild swelling, bruising, and tenderness, which should subside in a short time. Most patients return to work within the first week and resume normal activity in two to three weeks.
Excessively large or disproportionate breasts can cause a host of problems, including back and shoulder pain, in addition to self-consciousness. At our Little Rock, Arkansas office, Dr. Yee performs breast reduction surgery to address these problems.
At our office in Little Rock, Arkansas, Dr. Yee performs breast reduction surgery using a technique called tumescent liposuction. Other types of breast reduction surgery can take as long as eight hours and require several days in the hospital, followed by extensive recuperation, significant pain, and visible scarring. With the tumescent liposuction technique, Dr. Yee can reduce breast size with very little visible scarring. The procedure can be completed in less than three hours while the patient is under general anesthesia. Patients can return home the same day with only minimal discomfort. Some patients resume work in one or two days and are back to full activity within a week or two.
At our Little Rock, Arkansas office, breast reduction with tumescent liposuction begins with a large volume injection of a local anesthetic solution into the breasts. Dr. Yee then “melts” the fat with ultrasound and removes tissue with a suction instrument called a cannula. This allows her to recreate a breast of the desired size.
Most patients experience minimal discomfort following breast reduction surgery. Patients generally remain at our Little Rock, Arkansas practice for an hour or so in order to recover. Dressings are worn for the first day or two. Patients are encouraged to resume normal activities as soon as they feel up to it. The results of breast reduction surgery are usually permanent, but breast size may still change due to weight gain or pregnancy.
